Beatrice Whiskers believes every forgotten place deserves to feel loved.
Old libraries.
Dusty attics.
Hidden cupboards.
Abandoned dollhouses.
She quietly visits each one, curling up where memories have been left behind.
If she discovers a toy tucked beneath old floorboards or trapped behind furniture, she carefully rescues it.
Then she leaves it somewhere it will surely be found.
Lately she's noticed something rather curious.
Whenever she arrives at a forgotten room...
Several toys have already disappeared.
Only one remains.
Almost as though someone knew she would come looking.
Beside it she always finds the faint imprint of four large paws.
She smiles to herself.
"My mysterious friend has been busy again."
She has never met the ghost responsible.
But somehow...
They've become the best of friends.
THE MEETING
One stormy Halloween night, the veil between worlds grows unusually thin.
Barnaby and Beatrice both arrive at the very same old toy shop.
Barnaby is carrying a weathered teddy bear.
Beatrice has rescued its tiny knitted scarf.
They stop.
Look at each other.
Then both glance at the toy in surprise.
"So..." says Barnaby with a wag.
"It was you."
Beatrice gives a graceful nod.
"And it was you."
Neither can help but laugh.
From that evening onwards, they no longer worked alone.
Barnaby searched every forgotten garden, park and playground.
Beatrice explored every attic, cupboard and hidden corner.
Together they became known throughout the spirit world as The Keepers of Lost Treasures.
If you've ever rediscovered something precious you thought was gone forever, don't be too surprised if you notice muddy paw prints outside your door...
...and tiny cat footprints across the windowsill.
